 Werner Petrikat's Biography

Time to write my own biography. Oh Shit. There are so many different versions on line, all of them good luckily. Still, it is time to pen a new bio. Here we go... I was born in NYC to a very musical family. My mother's name is Symphony, but hold on, her 4 beautiful sisters were enthusiastically named - Melody, Harmony, Naila and Carol. Needless to sing we said a lot when I was young. Then there is my father. Last year we recorded a CD together. Old Style. We hung 2 Neumann mics and played away till we got it right. 39 songs in 2 weeks! My sister Christine, numerous recordings. My brother Douglas, 2 albums and numerous recordings and my sister Heidi - 9+ albums and a plethora of recorded songs.
Then there is me. My first band the spelled Brattles or Bratles, depending on how high we were, was a band of prepubescent punk rockers ages 8 to 12 ( Dagin, 8 drums - Jason, 9 vox - Emerson, 9 bass - Branch, 10 keys and Me, 12 Guitar ). We opened for the Clash twice, we shared a rehearsal room (the PIT) with the New York Dolls and we were produced by the great Chris Stein of Blondie and managed/mothered by the one and only Elda Stiletto. As usual, unbeknownst to us, the band "disbanded due to contract disputes". That is after we played 5 or so times at Max's Kansas City, the original Peppermint Lounge, The Ritz and Bonds. Our first single was the flip side to Blondie's Christmas Rapture! Another notable mention, do you remember Charlies Angels, they flew us to LA to appear on the Cheryl Ladd Special - that was fun - she was so sweet.
Some years later, following the footsteps of David Bowie, Lou Reed, Dee Dee Ramone and Iggy Pop, I moved to Berlin. Amazing city. What I learned is seemingly inconceivable. Listen to "Heroes" by Bowie written and recorded in Berlin as well as "One" by U2.
In 2002, with a desire to reconnect with my family and friends, I moved back to New York to find a very different me and a very different NYC. The People of New York (emphasize People) - a new empathy - a lust for truth maybe is in the air, I do love this city. Business & Politics on the other hand, 567 pages of the 911 Commission report reads like a bad screenplay. Since returning I opened a recording studio, took on a couple of students, put together what is called WernerPro - a community for artist, recorded one of the first iTunes Top10 Podcast for Deloitte & Touche USA, became the sound designer for the Village Vanguard, I rebuild their microphones too - I luv that! I also produced many bands (one of my favorites - HapiKrak) and started a independent film company. I spent the whole month of May and November 2006 around Europe with my father, we are making a film about my family (life long dream come true).
What's next, "Bratle-mentry". A film about the Brattles. Chris told me, he still has all the original studio masters/recordings (Luv u Chris). Now it's just a matter of getting everybody and everything together. If you have a story about the Brattles, a photo or whatever - let's talk... Never-the-less that's my "Life on a Page". Bye for now  -  Werner Petrikat...
